Round 1 of the Southern Enduro Series – Milland, West Sussex
Southern Enduro Series – Round 1 – Milland
Sussed Out Suspension made their way down to Milland in West Sussex for the opening round of the new Southern Enduro series. Even though heavy rain had hammered the course, there were no dampened spirits as the sun came out and the racing went off!!
The venue was at a secret location in Milland in West Sussex! Scott and all the guys @ Southern Enduro had done a truly amazing job building a gravity enduro circuit completely from scratch! The venue was perfect for gravity racing featuring some technical off-camber, loam filled trails. The heavy rain had certainly made things a little sticky going but it didn’t take away any fun from the racing and really tested your ability to choose good lines! The course held up so well and some really cool deep ruts formed 🙂
As series sponsors Sussed Out were present in the race village chatting about suspension set-up, Mondraker & Yeti bikes and all things MTB! Everyone in the race village was super friendly with riders all gathering to shoot the breeze and soak up the atmosphere. There was a good mix of bike shops, sports massage, burgers and beer which just added to the friendly vibe of the event.
Sussed Out Race Team riders Dan, Toby, Will & Mark were all racing the event and although the results and consistency didn’t show up, the fun level was maxxed out! Dan had some high speed crashes which included taking out a cameraman! His speed was good and he was definitely putting his Mondraker Dune RR through its paces even though he was nursing a big hangover! He was headed for a top 10 overall but due to crashes he ended up 23rd overall. (10th Pro)
Will & Toby rode together in the Masters category. Will had some good results on the first 2 stages riding the Yeti SB6C with Ohlins TTX shock clocking in 29th & 31st overall on stage 1 and 2. A big over the bars on stage 3 and another crash on stage 4 ended his consistency and placed him 51st overall (21st Master) Toby was just in it for the ride around and after some mid-trail kip ended up 68th overall (27th Master) Mark took on the Vet category and came away with 29th Vet after steadily improving as the day went on. He had good stamina on the trail and feels more confident going into the next round!
Massive thanks to everyone involved. Sussed Out are proud to sponsor the series and support such a forward thinking group of event organisers.
